About

about me

I was born in Co. Dublin and have been living in West Cork for 20 years. I have a Degree in Visual Art from Sherkin Island, TU Dublin & Masters in Art and Process Degree  MTU Cork

Working from my studio, surrounded by the West Cork countryside and coast inspired me to create textured, atmospheric landscapes. My semi-abstract landscapes are evocative of West Cork and its beautiful light, rapidly changing weather and wilder remote places.  Using a palette knife,  I layer oil paint and scrape back to reveal hidden details. Each layer is an echo of a previous mark and mirrors how memory, time and environment shape the landscape.   My palette is one of earthy colours including deep browns, blues and ochres.

My paintings are rarely a copy from a photograph they represent more an emotional response remembered,  how a place made me feel,  the weather at the time,  the light.  The titles are a very big part of my artistic expression,  I write a small amount of poetry and I usually take a line from one of those that resonates with the scene or the feeling I’m trying to express.

I hope you enjoy the time you spend here. Thank you.

Lesley
